Glasgow won the UK Technology Strategy Board's £24m Future Cities Demonstrator competition in January 2013, beating a shortlist drawn from around thirty British cities, and spent close to half of it on an integrated control room that opened in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The branded programme ran only to 2015, and its website no longer resolves. What it built outlived it — though by 2023 the council was cutting the staff who watch the screens, and had not restored them three years later.
